A few Mental Check-ins
Hi :)
It’s been a month since we last chatted.
Sorry we haven’t talked in so long! But I know you’re out there making progress every day.
I’ve been trying to cut down on my screen time (hence the fewer emails/blogs), do more reading, increase my exercise and accountability, and spend more time focusing on appointments and practices that will help me heal and grow every day.
Even though I kept my phone locked until at least 20 minutes after I wake up, I still made time to write a bit and share some (hopefully) helpful thoughts and feelings on IG over the last month.
I included those thoughts as sections below to help generate power and determination in the transitional and maybe uncertain parts of your life right now, as well as thoughts on reframing our minds to eliminate half the struggles we feel and combat them in an equanimous way… (more reading means bigger vocab, I wasn’t lying - I’m making a few chapters a week a priority)
In addition to these two sections, I, as I always do, will encourage you to take care of yourself and prioritize self love every day:
- Our bodies are stressed and a mess no matter if your daily life requires you to sit in a chair all day, move boxes, or do some construction on a roof. No matter what you do 1. please, make time for yourself to stretch your spine, open up your hips and chest, loosen up your neck, and relax your mind. A few moments of silence, for you to feel the stress in your body and stretch it out, get some blood flowing, and mediate in your head and 2. understand that there is always time in the day to take even 5 minutes (I would recommend 30 minutes minimum) to take care of yourself.
If you want to take it a step further, which is what I’ve done recently, book an appointment with a chiropractor, a massage therapist, a physical therapist… and if it is your mind that is tight, make a step to see a mental health therapist.
I cannot believe the lightness I feel in my body, the better sleeps I get, the happier I feel when I do these things - it’s easy magic, why are you denying yourself the feeling of.. well.. feeling good?
When you make these appointments, when you lay on the ground, stretch it out, prioritize yoga - to help your body, mind, soul decompress - to fight the stress and inflammation inside of you… you will feel like you are floating through life, physically & mentally aligned. And you deserve that - that is Mondays Are Good Days.
Procrastination and an unhealthy, wound-up tight, never relaxes version of you is not cute - and I say that in the most loving way.
So make a sticky note to work on that today. I can’t wait for you to feel so good :)
Filter out limiting thoughts and negativity by reframing your mind.
Exchange overthinking for overwhelming peace that says: "𝘐 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘰𝘬𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯."
𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲, 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠, 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦.
We all go through it, and the difference between the ones who make it and those who do not is their mindset. Eliminating limiting beliefs by being so picky about choosing words that spit out positive energy and intentional manifestation is SO important.
If you say you can't, then you won't. It's simple.
Do good today
You can alleviate even the worst symptoms of life by adopting the right attitude towards our afflictions *deep breath* — While there is a longer list of things that are out of our control than what is, if instead in these moments we shift the focus to the one thing that is within our power, your attitude, you will see that it is *all* you need in the moments of struggle and overwhelm
Make time, each day, to renew your determination to not let your happiness depend on anything but yourself. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘓𝘌𝘈𝘚𝘌, 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭 - 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺
To avoid and resist the inevitable - suffering, obstacles, waiting, uncertainty... will only cause more of it. Lean into all that you do have control over: as the Stoics said, happiness is a question of mind over matter :)
